Graz is steadily becoming one of Austria’s most exciting cities for social dancing, thanks to a growing community, committed teachers with international exposure, and an increasing number of socials and events. What was once a modest scene has transformed into a dynamic space where dancers can train, connect, and enjoy high-quality socials every week. The city is now attracting more dancers, instructors, and international influences, making it a hotspot for social dance enthusiasts.
A Collective Effort by Passionate Teachers
A major driving force behind this growth is the dedication of local instructors with international experience, each working in their own way to push the scene forward. Alongside well-established dance schools, new initiatives and independent instructors are offering diverse learning opportunities, ensuring that dancers of all levels have access to quality training.
More Socials, More Dancing!
Graz now boasts a vibrant weekly social scene, with multiple events happening across the city. Salsa Madras contributes actively with two regular socials: Madras Mambo Night and Madras Bachata Night, creating a welcoming space for dancers to practice and enjoy social dancing. With new organizers stepping in, the number of weekly socials has grown, giving dancers more chances to refine their skills and immerse themselves in the community.
A Dance Scene for Every Style
What makes Graz truly unique is the diverse range of dance styles flourishing here. In addition to Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba, the city has seen a strong movement in Sensual Bachata, Cuban Salsa, Urbankiz, and more. This variety ensures that dancers can experiment, learn, and grow in multiple styles, making Graz a truly dynamic dance capital. Whether you're drawn to the playfulness of Cuban Salsa, the flow of Sensual Bachata, or the urban energy of Urbankiz, there’s something for everyone.
A Rise in Weekend Events & International Connections
Beyond weekly socials, Graz is now hosting more weekend events, featuring guest instructors from other cities and countries. This exchange of knowledge helps local dancers evolve faster while also drawing more international attention to the scene. Additionally, more dancers from Graz are representing the city at festivals across Europe, further strengthening its reputation as a dance hub.
A Collective Achievement & A Bright Future
The rise of social dancing in Graz is the result of a collective effort by teachers, organizers, and passionate dancers. While I contribute through my classes, socials, and collaborations, it is this shared dedication that is lifting the city’s dance scene to new heights.
